Rastad & Relling Extension Dining Table

Norwegian extension dining table designed by Rastad & Relling Tegnekontor, the Oslo furniture and interior design firm founded by Rolf Rastad and Adolf Relling in 1943. The studio was an important contributor to postwar Norwegian furniture design and maintained close relationships with Norwegian manufacturers, including Gustav Bahus.

Constructed in teak, the table has a rectangular top with gently curved ends and rounded corners. A raised solid-teak edge follows the perimeter of the top, framing the teak surface and continuing across the removable extension leaves. The close-up photographs show the shaped edge profile and the fitted joints between the main tabletop and leaves. Four round, tapered legs connect directly beneath the apron, keeping the base relatively open and providing ample clearance around the table.

The table includes two removable extension leaves. The two halves of the tabletop pull apart on an internal wooden extension frame, allowing either one or both leaves to be installed depending on the required length. When fully extended, the leaves continue the proportions, edge treatment, and teak finish of the main tabletop.

The photographs show the table in both its compact and fully extended configurations, as well as the exposed wooden extension mechanism and locating hardware used to secure the sections. The teak displays consistent grain across the top, with solid wood used for the shaped perimeter, apron, and tapered legs.
