Peter Hvidt & Orla Molgaard Model FD 130 Lounge Chair

This Model FD 130 lounge chair, designed by Peter Hvidt and Orla Mølgaard-Nielsen, is constructed with a solid teak frame composed of rounded vertical posts and shaped horizontal rails. The front and rear legs are connected by continuous bentwood runners that extend from the back posts and curve downward toward the floor, forming a sled-style base. These runners are smoothly contoured with consistent thickness and rounded edges, creating a continuous structural element along each side of the chair.

The arms are carved from solid teak and taper gradually from the back posts toward the front supports. Each armrest is shaped with a shallow concave surface along the top and a slightly raised lip at the front edge. The arms connect directly into the vertical front posts through tight-fitting joinery, forming a rigid rectangular seat frame.

At the back of the chair, a horizontal teak rail spans between the rear posts and supports two angled vertical slats that extend downward to the rear seat rail. These slats are shaped with subtle curvature and are evenly spaced to reinforce the back structure.

The seat frame is formed by straight teak rails joined at the corners, supporting a removable upholstered seat cushion. The cushion is rectangular with softly rounded edges and sits flush within the frame. A separate rectangular back cushion rests against the back slats and rail. Both cushions are upholstered in a textured Danish wool with clean seams along the edges.

All wooden components are smoothly finished with consistent rounding at the edges and visible grain patterns running along the length of the arms, rails, and runners, emphasizing the precision shaping and joinery of the teak construction.
