Joe Colombo Chrome Topo Floor Lamp

Vintage Topo floor lamp designed by Joe Colombo for Stilnovo, constructed in chrome-plated metal with a black lacquered stem and circular base. Designed in 1970, the Topo was produced as part of Colombo’s lighting designs for the Italian manufacturer Stilnovo.

As shown in the photos, this example features a tall black lacquered vertical stem supporting a two-section chrome arm. Mechanical pivot joints connect the stem and arms, allowing the upper assembly to be extended outward, raised, lowered, or folded into a more compact position. The long horizontal section provides substantial reach from the base, while the articulated construction allows the lamp to be positioned for reading, task lighting, or general illumination.

The chrome-plated metal shade has the distinctive rounded form associated with the Topo design, with ventilation openings along the upper surface and a black insulated handle for adjusting its position. Stilnovo notes that the reflector itself can be oriented to direct the light independently of the articulated arms.

A low circular black base supports the narrow vertical column while maintaining a relatively small footprint. The photographs show the contrast between the black lacquered lower structure and polished chrome upper components, along with visible mechanical hardware at each pivot point.
