Jens Risom Expandable Serving Cart

Vintage mid-century modern expandable serving cart designed by Jens Risom, constructed in walnut with a clear glass lower shelf and four casters. The cart features a rectangular tabletop with two hinged drop leaves, a central storage drawer, and an open wooden frame.

The walnut tabletop displays a straight, consistent grain pattern and can be configured in three positions. With both leaves lowered, the cart maintains a compact rectangular footprint. Either leaf can be raised independently, or both can be extended to create a substantially larger serving surface. Each extension is supported by a folding metal bracket mounted beneath the tabletop, allowing the leaves to be secured horizontally when in use and lowered when additional space is no longer required.

A shallow drawer is positioned directly beneath the center of the tabletop. Its wide, angled walnut front follows the cart's restrained geometric construction, while the interior provides convenient storage for smaller serving accessories, utensils, or bar tools.

The lower portion incorporates a rectangular clear glass shelf supported by the walnut framework. This additional surface provides space for bottles, glassware, or other serving items without obstructing the open appearance of the cart. The shelf rests on supports integrated into the lower stretchers, with its polished glass edges visible along the perimeter.

The cart stands on four caster wheels with metal mounting hardware, allowing it to be repositioned throughout a room. Its squared walnut legs, horizontal stretchers, and minimal ornamentation are characteristic of Risom's practical approach to mid-century furniture design.
