Designed by Florence Knoll for Knoll Associates, this circa-1950s modular chest of drawers is constructed with walnut casework and supported by a continuous chrome-plated steel base.
This example consists of three individual walnut drawer chests arranged side by side on a shared metal base, creating a long, low-profile configuration. Each cabinet contains three wide drawers, providing a total of nine drawers across the piece. The fronts are free of applied hardware, with recessed detailing allowing the drawers to be opened without interrupting the flat walnut surfaces.
The photographs show continuous walnut across the tops, sides, and drawer fronts, with visible grain throughout. Narrow recessed gaps separate the three cabinets and clearly define the modular construction. The casework sits above the floor on a rectilinear chrome-plated base with slim square-section legs positioned beneath the cabinet divisions and outer ends. Chrome bases are documented on Florence Knoll dressers from this period and remain a characteristic construction detail of related Knoll storage pieces.
The drawer interiors are constructed in a lighter contrasting wood. The photographs show removable dividers in the upper center drawer, while the lower drawers provide open storage.
