Arteluce Swivel Steel Floor Lamp

This vintage adjustable floor lamp was designed by Irving Richards for Arteluce, Italy, circa 1968. Documented examples of this model identify its construction as enameled steel and chrome and describe the three independently adjustable light sources as capable of swiveling both horizontally and vertically. 

The lamp is built around a tall rectangular black steel base supporting a narrow vertical column. Three individual lighting units are positioned at staggered heights along the column, each housed within a square black enameled-steel frame. Inside each housing is a square reflector with a circular opening surrounding the exposed bulb. As shown in the photos, each reflector pivots independently, allowing the bulbs to face forward or be angled upward and downward for directional illumination.

Knurled chrome knobs mounted to the sides of the housings provide individual adjustment and contrast with the black enameled steel. The three lighting units can also rotate horizontally around the central structure, allowing them to face different directions rather than remaining aligned. Comparable examples document individual switches for each socket, providing independent control of the three lights.

The rear maintains the same narrow vertical profile, with the electrical cord exiting near the bottom of the rectangular base. Close-up photographs show the steel construction, chrome hardware, recessed sockets, and minor surface wear consistent with age and use.
